About Original Paintings
Here are several galleries of recent original paintings. I have not made prints or posters of these images. They are almost all made with acrylic paint on paper. Several years ago I had a silkscreen print made in Haifa of a painting I made of a round letter Aleph. I had a large size produced (60 x 50 cm) and a smaller size (36 x 32 cm). 250 prints of each size were made. I was not happy with the way the silkscreen prints came out. The fault was all mine, not the printers, they do excellent work.
So I had all these prints that I didn’t want to sell as they were, and instead of throwing them all out, I started painting over them. Sometimes, parts of the Aleph print can be seen beneath the layers of acrylic paint, and sometimes, no trace of the silkscreen ink can be seen at all. Some of these paintings are still based on the letter Aleph, some of them have no relation to the failed print. As an artist, I am much happier with these paintings than I was with the silkscreen print, and I have sold a few of these originals, as well.
There is a connection I feel between the nature of these paintings and the idea of the World of Tikkun (Repair) that is a key element of the Lurianic Kabbalah. The broken and incomplete primordial Sefirot were repaired and completed instead of being destroyed and discarded. Having the silkscreen print as an underpainting changes the way the acrylic paint dries and is absorbed by the paper, as well as the color quality and texture. The failed print is thus included in the success of the finished acrylic painting, and that is an example of the process of Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World) - how we can learn and grow from our failures as well as from our successes.
I have made reproductions from some of the acrylic paintings I made in this manner, and they can be seen in other sections of this website - some of the pictures based on the Aleph, but others as well. The paintings in these galleries can be purchased, but since they are one-of-a-kind originals, their prices range from $500 to $3000, depending of the size, the amount of work I put into them, and how hard it is for me to let go of them. If you are interested in purchasing one you can email me and I will tell you the price of the picture or pictures you are interested in.
